Extend AI pricing is credit based. Pay As You Go is free to start with 10,000 credits, then costs $0.0125 per credit with no contract or monthly minimum. Scale is $500 a month with 50,000 credits included and $0.01 per extra credit. Enterprise is custom. Extracting fields from a page costs 5 credits in Performance mode (about $0.0625) or 1.2 credits in Light mode (about $0.015).
Those figures come from the Extend pricing page and its How Credits Work documentation. The rest of this article turns them into what a buyer actually needs: a price per 1,000 pages for each operation, the volume where Scale beats Pay As You Go, and what a month of receipts or invoices really costs.
How much does Extend AI cost?
Extend sells three plans. Every plan includes the same APIs (Parse, Extract, Classify, Split and Edit), Studio, the evaluation suite and workflows. What changes is the price of a credit, rate limits, support and the compliance and deployment options.
| Plan | Price | Credits included | Extra credits | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pay As You Go | $0 to start | 10,000 free credits | $0.0125 each | Full product access, zero data retention, chat support, limited rate limits |
| Scale | $500 per month | 50,000 per month | $0.01 each | Private Slack channel, higher rate limits, custom data retention, volume discounts, HIPAA BAA as an add-on |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Custom per credit | Your own VPC or hybrid deployment, custom MSA, DPA and SLAs, SSO and SAML, advanced roles, multiple workspaces, custom models |
Two things stand out. Pay As You Go has no platform fee at all, which is unusual for a document API with this feature set. And the Scale plan is priced so that its included credits cost exactly $0.01 each, a 20 percent discount on the Pay As You Go rate, as long as you use all of them.
How many credits does Extend use per page?
Each operation has a base credit cost per page, and there are two modes. Performance is the most accurate. Light costs roughly four times less. Extract, Split and Classify all trigger an automatic parse first, so the real cost of those operations is the operation plus its parse. The table below adds them up and converts to dollars per 1,000 pages. The dollar columns are our arithmetic from Extend's published credit rates.
| Workload per page | Credits, Light | Per 1,000 pages, Light | Credits, Performance | Per 1,000 pages, Performance | Performance on Scale |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Parse only | 0.5 | $6.25 | 2 | $25.00 | $20.00 |
| Extract, with automatic parse | 1.2 | $15.00 | 5 | $62.50 | $50.00 |
| Split, with automatic parse | 1.0 | $12.50 | 4 | $50.00 | $40.00 |
| Classify, with automatic parse | 0.8 | $10.00 | 3 | $37.50 | $30.00 |
Extend's Auto parse engine routes each page to one of those two tiers on its own, billing simple pages at 0.5 credits and complex ones at 2. For a stack of clean, digital PDF invoices, most pages should land in the cheap tier. For crumpled thermal receipts photographed on a phone, plan on Performance.
What costs extra on top of the base rate?
Several optional features add credits per page when you switch them on. They are the reason a pilot budget and a production bill often disagree.
| Option | Extra cost | Effect on a Performance extract |
|---|---|---|
| Extraction Review Agent | +1 credit per page | 5 becomes 6 credits, $75 per 1,000 pages |
| Classification Review Agent | +0.5 credits per page | Applies to classify runs |
| Agentic text correction | +1 credit per page where it triggers | Only charged on pages that needed it |
| Agentic table correction | +1 credit per page where it triggers | Only charged on pages that needed it |
| Large Array Max Context | 2x the extraction credits | 3 becomes 6 for extraction, 8 in total, $100 per 1,000 pages |
| Priority parsing | 2x the parsing credits | Enabled by the Extend team on request |
| Advanced Excel parsing | 3 credits per 1,000 non-empty cells | For spreadsheet inputs, billed per cell |
Large Array Max Context is the one to watch for invoices. It makes several passes over the document to capture long lists accurately, which is exactly what a multi-page invoice with dozens of line items needs, and it doubles the extraction charge. If invoice line item extraction is the core of your use case, price your pilot with it switched on.
Is Extend AI free?
Extend is free to start, not free to run. A new Pay As You Go account gets 10,000 credits, which at list price is worth $125. That covers about 8,300 pages of Light extraction or 2,000 pages of Performance extraction. After that every credit is billed at $0.0125, with low-balance alerts and automatic top-ups available in the dashboard. There is no sales call needed to get an API key.
When is the Extend Scale plan worth it?
Scale costs $500 for 50,000 credits. The same 50,000 credits on Pay As You Go would cost $625. The break-even is 40,000 credits a month, because $500 divided by $0.0125 is 40,000. Below that, Pay As You Go is cheaper. Above it, Scale wins, and every credit past 50,000 costs $0.01 instead of $0.0125.
| Monthly workload | Credits | Pay As You Go | Scale | Cheaper plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2,500 pages, Performance extract | 12,500 | $156.25 | $500.00 | Pay As You Go |
| 8,000 pages, Performance extract | 40,000 | $500.00 | $500.00 | Break-even |
| 10,000 pages, Performance extract | 50,000 | $625.00 | $500.00 | Scale |
| 20,000 pages, Performance extract | 100,000 | $1,250.00 | $1,000.00 | Scale |
| 10,000 pages, Light extract | 12,000 | $150.00 | $500.00 | Pay As You Go |
Put in pages, the switch happens at about 8,000 Performance extractions or 33,000 Light extractions a month. Teams that need the HIPAA BAA add-on or custom data retention will end up on Scale regardless of volume, because those are Scale features.
What does Extend cost for receipts and invoices?
Receipts are usually one page each, so pages and documents are the same number. Here is a month of receipt extraction at three quality settings, on Pay As You Go, compared with our own plans for the same volume.
| Setup | 2,500 receipts a month | 10,000 receipts a month |
|---|---|---|
| Extend, Light extract | $37.50 | $150.00 |
| Extend, Performance extract | $156.25 | $500.00 on Scale |
| Extend, Performance extract with Review Agent | $187.50 | $600.00 on Scale |
| ReceiptOCR Starter, billed monthly | $49, includes 2,500 pages | Not enough pages |
| ReceiptOCR Plus, billed monthly | $149 | $149, includes 10,000 pages |
Be clear about what is being compared. Our page allowances above are on the faster Base AI model; the higher accuracy Pro AI model comes with 500 pages on Starter and 2,000 on Plus. And Extend Light at 2,500 receipts is cheaper than our Starter plan. The difference is what arrives at the end. Extend returns JSON from a schema you design, wired into software you build. We return a reviewed spreadsheet: vendor, date, tax, total and line items in Excel, CSV or a QuickBooks file, from a bulk receipt scanner a bookkeeper can use today without writing code.
How does Extend pricing compare with Reducto, LlamaParse and Landing AI?
The newer document APIs all price by page, but each defines its unit differently. This table uses each vendor's list rate for a full extraction, with parsing included, per 1,000 pages.
| Vendor | Extraction, per 1,000 pages | Free start | Where the detail is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Extend, Light | $15.00 | 10,000 credits | This article |
| Extend, Performance | $62.50, or $50 on Scale | 10,000 credits | This article |
| Reducto Extract | $20.00 | $150 of usage | Reducto pricing |
| LlamaParse, cost-effective extract | $10.00 | 10,000 credits | LlamaParse pricing |
| LlamaParse, agentic extract | $31.25 | 10,000 credits | LlamaParse pricing |
| Landing AI ADE | Varies with characters per page | 1,000 credits | Landing AI pricing |
| Datalab, turbo extraction | $6.00 | $20 a month, recurring | Datalab pricing |
On headline rate, Extend Performance is the most expensive extraction in this group and Extend Light is among the cheapest. That spread is the point of the two modes: you choose accuracy per processor instead of per contract. Who should pay for Extend, and who should not
Extend is built for engineering teams putting document processing inside their own product: a lending platform reading bank documents, a logistics app reading bills of lading, a health company that needs a BAA and zero data retention. The evaluation suite, workflows, human review and self-hosted deployment options are the reason to buy it, and none of those matter unless you are building. If what you are shopping for is a finished agent rather than infrastructure to build one, an AI agent marketplace is the faster place to look.
If you are a bookkeeper, an accounts payable clerk or a small finance team, the math changes. The per-page rate is only part of the cost; the rest is the developer time to design schemas, handle errors, and turn JSON into something your accounting system accepts. Our receipt OCR API covers the developer case for receipts specifically, and the upload tool at the top of this page covers everyone else: drop in a batch of receipts or invoices and download the spreadsheet.
Frequently asked questions
What is an Extend credit worth?
An Extend credit costs $0.0125 on Pay As You Go and $0.01 on the Scale plan, both for included and additional credits on Scale. Enterprise credit pricing is negotiated. Credits are the single billing unit for every API, so one balance covers parsing, extraction, splitting, classification and editing.
Does Extend have a monthly minimum?
No. Pay As You Go has no contract, no monthly platform fee and no minimum, and you do not need a sales call to start. The Scale plan is an optional $500 monthly commitment that buys cheaper credits, higher rate limits and Slack support.
How much does it cost to extract a 10-page document with Extend?
Extend's own example puts a 10-page Performance extraction at 50 credits, 30 for extraction and 20 for the automatic parse, which is about $0.63 on Pay As You Go. In Light mode the same document uses 12 credits, about $0.15. Review Agent or large array options add to both figures.
Is Extend cheaper than Reducto?
It depends on the mode. Extend Light extraction works out to $15 per 1,000 pages against $20 for Reducto Extract, so Extend is cheaper. Extend Performance extraction is $62.50 per 1,000 pages on Pay As You Go, roughly three times Reducto's list rate.
