Unstract Pricing and LLMWhisperer Cost per Page

Unstract pricing has three platform plans. Starter is $499 a month for 5,000 pages with $0.10 per extra page. Growth is $2,249 a month for 25,000 pages with $0.09 per extra page. Enterprise is quoted. Yearly billing brings those to $416 and $1,874 a month. After the trial you connect your own LLM, so the model provider bills you separately on top of the platform fee.

Those figures come from the Unstract pricing page. The standalone OCR engine, LLMWhisperer, is priced on its own from $1 to $15 per 1,000 pages after 100 free pages a day, and it is included in the platform plans at no separate charge. Below is what each plan costs at 1,000 to 50,000 pages a month, where Starter stops making sense, what the LLM bill adds, and when a page priced receipt tool is the cheaper way to get receipts and invoices into rows.

Unstract platform plans and prices

Unstract is a document extraction platform from Zipstack. You define what to pull from a document in Prompt Studio, now sold as Agentic Prompt Studio, which builds the schema, writes the prompts and checks accuracy against sample files. Each paid plan starts with a 14 day trial that ships with Azure OpenAI GPT-4o credits for 1 million tokens, an embedding model and a vector database.

Unstract says it does not charge for pages that fail on a technical error, and that it never trains on customer data. There is also an open source edition you can run yourself, which costs nothing in license fees and everything in engineering time. This article is about the hosted plans, because that is what a team with a deadline usually buys.

How much does Unstract cost per page?

On Starter, a full month of 5,000 pages works out to about $0.10 a page, the same as the overage rate. On Growth, 25,000 pages works out to $0.09 a page. The trap is the floor. If you only process 1,000 pages, Starter still costs $499, which is $0.50 a page before you pay for a single LLM token.

The arithmetic is ours on monthly billing: Starter is $499 plus $0.10 for every page above 5,000, Growth is $2,249 plus $0.09 above 25,000. The two cross at 22,500 pages. Below that, Starter with overage is cheaper even when the overage looks large on the invoice. Teams moving to Growth because 25,000 pages sounds like headroom, then processing 12,000, pay $2,249 for work that costs $1,199 on Starter.

What does the LLM add to the Unstract bill?

Unstract extracts fields by sending the document text to a large language model. The trial covers the first million tokens. After that you connect your own provider, so OpenAI, Azure, Anthropic, Google or whoever you pick invoices you directly for every page. The platform price is the floor of your cost, not the total.

How big that second bill gets depends on the model, the length of each document and how many prompts your schema runs per page. A one page receipt with a short schema is cheap. A 20 page contract with 40 fields and a vector lookup is not. Price it on your own documents during the trial, then multiply by your monthly page count before you sign. If finance asks why the AI line keeps moving, put the provider invoice next to the platform fee in your cloud cost management view, so the two are read together rather than discovered separately at quarter end.

LLMWhisperer pricing on its own

LLMWhisperer is the OCR layer under Unstract, and you can buy it by itself. It turns a PDF or scan into layout preserving text for your own LLM pipeline. It does not return merchant, date and total as fields. You still write the extraction step.

The first 100 pages a day are free on every mode, with no card required, and pay as you go applies after that. For pure text extraction these are fair rates, close to the cloud OCR APIs we compare on our OCR API pricing page. Self hosting in your own VPC is an Enterprise option.

Unstract against ReceiptOCR, by volume

We sell receipt and invoice extraction two ways: a web app that exports Excel, CSV and QuickBooks files on every plan, and an API on the Pro plan. Our plans count pages, the model cost is included, and a one page receipt uses one page. Starter is $49 a month for 2,500 pages on the faster Base AI model or 500 on the higher accuracy Pro AI model. Plus is $149 a month for 10,000 Base AI pages. Pro includes the API and is $499 a month for 35,000 Base AI pages or 8,000 Pro AI pages.

To be fair to Unstract: it reads almost any document you can describe, from loan packets to insurance forms, and you can tune the prompts yourself. The open source edition and VPC deployment matter to teams that cannot send documents to a hosted service. Enterprise carries HIPAA and ISO 27001. If your documents are long, varied or regulated, those are worth paying for, and a receipt specific tool will not replace it.

Where we win is receipts and invoices. At 10,000 pages a month the Unstract platform fee is $999 before tokens against $499 for our API with the model included, and at 25,000 pages it is $2,249 against $499. For a bookkeeper who just wants receipts in a spreadsheet, our $49 Starter covers 2,500 receipts with export built in, while the same volume on Unstract is $499 plus an LLM bill plus someone to write the schema. Who should pay for Unstract?

Unstract fits engineering teams with unusual documents and a reason to own the pipeline: lenders reading bank packets, insurers reading claims, legal operations reading contracts. It also fits teams that already run their own LLM contract and want the extraction layer to use it. It fits less well when the documents are receipts and invoices, the volume is a few thousand pages a month, and nobody wants to maintain prompts.
