Taggun pricing starts at $28 a month for 500 scans on the Developer plan. Startup is $99 for 1,800 scans, Business is $399 for 8,000 and Advanced is $799 for 20,000, with Enterprise by quote. Extra scans cost $0.060 down to $0.040 each depending on the plan, yearly billing takes about 10% off, and every plan opens with a 30 day trial of up to 1,000 scans.

Those figures come from the Taggun pricing page as published in October 2026. The review directories that rank for this search still show a single per scan figure, some of it in New Zealand dollars, and one describes a product with no flat monthly plan. That is out of date. Taggun now sells monthly scan blocks in US dollars, and the plan you pick decides both your rate and which features you get. This page lays out the full card, the points where upgrading becomes cheaper than paying overage, and what the same receipt volume costs if you do not need an API at all.

The effective and overage rates are the ones Taggun prints in its own comparison table. The yearly prices sit in the page pricing data behind the Monthly and Yearly toggle. Divided by twelve they come to $25, $89, $359 and $719 a month, a saving of 10.0% to 10.7%, which matches the "Save ~10%" label.

How much does Taggun cost per scan?

Between $0.040 and $0.060. The rate barely moves across the first three plans: $0.056 on Developer, $0.055 on Startup and $0.050 on Business. Only Advanced, at 20,000 scans a month, reaches four cents. So Taggun is not a product where volume buys a steep discount until you are large enough to negotiate Enterprise terms. What the higher plans mostly buy is features.

The effective rate also assumes you use every scan. A team on Startup that processes 900 receipts in a month has paid $0.11 for each one. If your volume swings with the season, budget on the plan price and treat the per scan figure as a best case.

What counts as a scan on Taggun?

Taggun states that one submitted file equals one scan and one API request. Processed requests count, including receipts that fail validation or get flagged by fraud checks. Requests that fail before processing are not counted. Two things follow from that. A receipt you send twice is two scans, so deduplicate before the call if your users tend to re-upload. And a rejected receipt in a promotion or cashback campaign still costs a scan, which matters when a large share of submissions are invalid by design.

What each Taggun plan adds

PlanWhat you get beyond the plan below
DeveloperCore receipt and invoice fields including line items and country specific fields, all official languages, self guided onboarding
StartupTax intelligence (VAT numbers and rates), purchase categorisation, merchant intelligence, product identifier and SKU extraction
BusinessMutual NDA and Data Processing Agreement, support by email, Slack and Zoom
AdvancedFraud detection suite (duplicates and tampering), receipt validation for promotions, performance tuning, bulk discount pricing
EnterpriseDedicated and managed hosting, customisable SLAs and dedicated support

This is the part of the card that decides most purchases. If you need a signed DPA before production data can flow, your floor is Business at $399 a month regardless of how few receipts you send. If the project is a receipt validated promotion, the validation and fraud tools start at Advanced, $799 a month. Price the plan your requirements force, then check whether the included scans cover you.

When does upgrading beat paying overage?

Because overage is priced close to the effective rate, staying on a smaller plan is often fine for a while. The crossover points, worked out from the published prices, are:

MoveUpgrade becomes cheaper aboveArithmetic
Developer to Startupabout 1,680 scans a month$28 plus 1,183 extra scans at $0.060 equals $99
Startup to Businessabout 7,250 scans a month$99 plus 5,455 extra scans at $0.055 equals $399
Business to Advanced16,000 scans a month$399 plus 8,000 extra scans at $0.050 equals $799

A developer running 1,000 receipts a month pays $58 on Developer ($28 plus 500 extra scans) and $99 on Startup. Unless the tax or merchant features are needed, Developer with overage wins until roughly 1,680 scans.

Taggun monthly cost by receipt volume

The table shows the cheapest Taggun plan at each volume on month to month billing, next to ReceiptOCR plans for the same number of single page receipts. ReceiptOCR Starter is $49 a month for 2,500 pages, Plus is $149 for 10,000 and Pro is $499 for 35,000. API access is part of Pro. Starter and Plus work through browser upload with Excel, CSV and QuickBooks export.

Receipts a monthTaggun (cheapest plan)ReceiptOCR by uploadReceiptOCR with API
500$28 (Developer)$49 (Starter)$499 (Pro)
1,000$58 (Developer plus overage)$49 (Starter)$499 (Pro)
2,500$137.50 (Startup plus overage)$49 (Starter)$499 (Pro)
5,000$275 (Startup plus overage)$149 (Plus)$499 (Pro)
10,000$499 (Business plus overage)$149 (Plus)$499 (Pro)
20,000$799 (Advanced)$499 (Pro)$499 (Pro)
35,000$1,399 (Advanced plus overage, before any bulk discount)$499 (Pro)$499 (Pro)

Read it honestly in both directions. For a developer who needs an API and sends fewer than 10,000 receipts a month, Taggun is the cheaper option, and at 500 scans it is far cheaper. The two meet at 10,000 a month, and above that the flat Pro allowance costs less. For a finance team that wants the data in a spreadsheet and has nobody to write integration code, the comparison is the middle column: 2,500 receipts for $49 instead of $137.50, with nothing to build.

One difference in the unit is worth knowing. Taggun bills per file. ReceiptOCR bills per page, and when one photo or PDF holds several receipts it reads them as separate records without charging extra pages for the split.

Does Taggun have a free plan?

No standing free tier is listed. Developer, Startup, Business and Advanced each include a 30 day free trial with up to 1,000 scans and the features of the plan you selected. Taggun states that unless you cancel during the trial, the account continues on that plan and billing begins at its standard monthly rate. Pick the plan you intend to pay for when you start the trial, since that is the one you will be billed on.

What is not on the Taggun price list

  • Enterprise rates. Bulk discounts, dedicated hosting and SLAs are quoted. Taggun also says it builds custom pricing for campaigns, seasonal volume and startups, so a published tier is a starting point for larger buyers.
  • On premises deployment. Taggun says it does not offer traditional on premises installs. Hosting is on AWS, with dedicated or managed hosting discussed under Enterprise.
  • A spreadsheet workflow for non developers. The product is an API that returns JSON, with published CSV export operations. Someone still has to build the upload screen, the review step and the handoff to accounting.
  • Short retention by default. Submitted files and results are stored for up to three years unless you set the incognito flag on a request. That is a configuration task, not a price, but it belongs in the evaluation.

Rate cards in this category change often, and this one clearly did. If the number feeds a budget, set up a way to track changes to a vendor pricing page so a quiet revision does not surprise you at renewal.

How Taggun compares with other receipt OCR APIs on price

Taggun sits in the middle of the market. The big cloud receipt models run about a cent a page: the OCR API pricing comparison has AWS, Google and Azure side by side, and they are cheaper per call but return raw JSON with no merchant or tax enrichment. Veryfi is the closest product match and prices higher, with a monthly minimum covered in the Veryfi pricing breakdown. Mindee and Tabscanner publish their own plan ladders, summarized on the Mindee pricing and Tabscanner pricing pages.

Where Taggun earns its rate is the receipt specific layer above extraction: merchant normalisation, SKU capture, duplicate and tampering checks, and campaign validation. If you are building a loyalty or promotion product, those are the features you would otherwise write yourself. If you only need vendor, date, tax, total and line items, you are paying for a layer you will not use.

Is Taggun worth the price?

It is for a product team that needs receipt validation or fraud signals inside its own app and will send a steady volume. The trial is generous, billing is simple, and the SOC 2 Type 2 report shortens a security review.

It is a poor fit when the goal is bookkeeping. If the job is turning a month of receipts and invoices into rows for Excel or QuickBooks, an API is the long way round. Upload the files in the converter at the top of this page, review the extracted fields and download the spreadsheet. The Taggun alternative page compares the two approaches feature by feature, and the receipt OCR API page covers the developer route on the Pro plan.

Taggun pricing FAQ

How much does Taggun cost?

Taggun costs $28 a month for 500 scans on Developer, $99 for 1,800 on Startup, $399 for 8,000 on Business and $799 for 20,000 on Advanced. Enterprise is quoted. Yearly billing is $300, $1,068, $4,308 and $8,628, about 10% less than twelve monthly payments.

What does Taggun charge for extra scans?

Overage is $0.060 per scan on Developer, $0.055 on Startup, $0.050 on Business and $0.040 on Advanced. Because those rates are close to the effective plan rates, exceeding your allowance by a few hundred scans rarely justifies an upgrade on its own.

Is there a Taggun free trial?

Yes. Every self serve plan includes a 30 day free trial with up to 1,000 scans. The account moves to the selected paid plan at the end of the trial unless you cancel first.

Does a failed receipt count as a scan?

If Taggun processed it, yes. Receipts that fail validation or are flagged by fraud checks count toward the allowance. Requests that fail before processing do not.

Which Taggun plan includes fraud detection?

Advanced and Enterprise. The fraud detection suite, covering duplicates and tampering, and receipt validation for promotions both start at Advanced, which is $799 a month for 20,000 scans.

Is there a cheaper way to get receipt data without building on an API?

Yes. ReceiptOCR Starter is $49 a month for 2,500 pages with browser upload and Excel, CSV and QuickBooks export, which works out to about two cents a page. It suits accounting and operations teams. Developers who need an API should compare Taggun against the Pro plan at $499 for 35,000 pages.
